    PRIMARY ELECTION: AUGUST 26, 2008

    GENERAL ELECTION: NOVEMBER 4, 2008

    * Polls are open on election days from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Consult your voter identification card for precinct number and polling place location; take your card and photo identification with signature with you to vote. Candidates and proposals to be voted on are listed on a sample ballot. Voting procedures will be demonstrated to you. YOU MUST VOTE IN YOUR ASSIGNED PRECINCT ON ELECTION DAY.

    * Primary elections to select party candidates for national, state and county offices are held in September of even numbered years. You must be registered in a political party to vote for that party's candidates in a primary.

    * Judicial and school board elections, constitutional amendments and other issues are non-partisan and may be on the primary ballot. All registered voters may vote for those issues or candidates at primaries.

    * Florida's Universal Primary System allows all registered voters to vote in primaries whenever there are no opposing party candidates on the November ballot.

    * General Elections of candidates for national, state and county offices are held Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years. Vote for the candidate of your choice regardless of party affiliation.

    * Special or referendum elections may be called by the Board of County Commissioners or municipalities for items of local concern. All registered voters may vote at special elections regardless of party affiliation. Some special elections are restricted to particular districts and are not countywide. Some Municipal non-partisan elections take place in March; some have moved to November.

    * You have the right to cast a provisional ballot if your eligibility cannot be determined. The Canvassing Board determines validity; ballot it will only be counted if you are in your correct precinct and your signature matches file copy.

    EARLY VOTING is allowed for 2 weeks before certain elections at various sites around the County. A VOTER MAY VOTE AT ANY SITE DURING EARLY VOTING.

  • REGISTRATION

    WHO CAN REGISTER TO VOTE:
    * A legal resident of Broward County
    * A citizen of the United States, at least eighteen years old. (You can pre-register at 17, (or at 16, with a valid driver's license), but you won't be able to vote until you are 18.)
    * Not claim the right to vote in another state or county
    * Not a convicted felon, unless civil rights have been restored.
    * Not judged mentally incapacitated, unless competency has been restored.

    There is no cost, and no documentation is needed; however, if you are registering by mail you must include a copy of a photo ID.

    BOOKS CLOSE 29 DAYS BEFORE ELECTION.

    WHERE TO REGISTER or make changes
    * You may register to vote or change address, party affiliation or name, at all driver's license offices, public libraries, various social services or at any of the following Supervisor of Elections offices. You may also register to vote or make changes by mail on VOTER REGISTRATION APPLICATIONS available at those locations. The form can also be downloaded from the website: www.browardsoe.org

    * Address changes within Broward County may be made by completing the back of your registration card and mailing it to the Supervisor of Elections main office. A VOTER REGISTRATION CARD WILL BE MAILED TO YOU TO VERIFY NEW REGISTRATION OR ANY CHANGES. It is your responsibility to verify the correct address and signature on your voter registration record.

    * You may only be registered to vote in one County, or State at a time. A new statewide database allows voter registration to be transferred anywhere within the State of Florida.
