Tuesday, Jan. 9 – Opening of 60-day 2018 Florida Legislative Session.

Tuesday, Jan. 9 - City of Fort Lauderdale Candidate Forum.  6:30 p.m. Candidates for mayor and commission will speak in a forum moderated by Brittany Wallman, reporter for the Sun Sentinel. The event is sponsored by Council of Fort Lauderdale Civic Association. City Hall Commission Chambers,  100 North Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale.

Saturday, Jan. 20, 12:15 p.m. New Member Orientation. The event starts with a light lunch and includes a presentation and Q&A. New and prospective members are welcome. League offices, 5101 NW 21st Ave., Suite 450, Fort Lauderdale. RSVP here.

Sunday, Jan. 21, Women’s March Power to the Polls rally.  This Miami rally is an effort to unite for the interests of the disenfranchised including displaced Puerto Ricans. Other issues beign addressed are privacy and women’s health. There will be a League voter registration table organized by Laura Simon. To volunteer, call Laura Simon, 954-430-5234 or 954-668-4763. (Note: If you plan to participate in the rally, members should know that it is OK to carry signs or posters mentioning LWV or with the League logo. but these messages should not be partisan. If you want to carry a partisan message, don’t use th League name or logo. ) Bus transportation is available and here is additional information about the event.

Saturday, Jan, 27 – Environmental Issues Committee, 1 p.m.  at the meeting room in the Dunkin Donuts, 9170 W. State Rd. 84 in Davie.

Wednesday., Jan. 31, 5:30-8 p.m. League of Women Voters of Broward fundraiser and social, Red Wine & Blue, YOLO, 333 E Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale. Help raise money for voter registration and education in the 2018 election while meeting and networking with League members and civic leaders. Minimum donation of $10 is asked. RSVP here.

End of March: Legislative breakfast after session wraps up.


April 28, 2018: Annual meeting of the League of Women Voters of Broward County at Plantation Preserve Country Club, 7050 W Broward Blvd., Plantation. Business meeting and election of officers at 10 a.m. Luncheon at noon.

Elections dates in 2018

Aug. 28, 2018: Primary election. Nonpartisan races for school board and judges; Partisan races whenever there are two or more candidates in political party

Nov. 6, 2018: General election. Governor, Lt. Gov. and Cabinet, US Senator, all US House, All Florida House, half Florida Senate, half County Commission, most municipalities and special districts, and many amendments to charters and Florida constitution.
